As a small company, currently 5 in the office and 15 onsite, Elkins Architects offer a personal service, you can expect to be working with Nick and Rob, as architects, throughout the process. Unlike most design and build firms, we are architects who have our own directly employed building team. We are not builders who employ a designer to do drawings. This gives Elkins Architects a much greater control over the finished product and ensures design and construction standards are maintained throughout the build. Both stages of the project are combined to allow a balanced design based on the integrity of the aesthetic and the available budget. We as yet have not had to ‘value engineer’ a project because we design and stick to a budget.

The main emphasis of our past work is in bespoke residential property including both new builds and renovations. However we have previously worked on projects ranging from office blocks to tree houses, and schools to factories. We pride ourselves on being able to identify the hidden potential of any space.

Around half of the over 400 schemes we have designed have been constructed by our workforce, supplemented where necessary by specialist subcontractors and craftsmen. Take a look at our projects page if you haven’t yet to see a small selection of our newest and favourite past schemes.

Should our construction team be fully committed, or should you have a preferred contractor, we can offer a range of follow on services including contract administration and project management through to completion, occupation or beyond.

Elkins Architects continues the traditions of its ‘parent’ company – Nicholas Elkins Ltd. – as an architect led design and construction company aiming to provide high quality designs, on time and on budget.

Nick Elkins has been designing and building in the Chippenham area since studying Architecture at Bath University in the 1970’s. His over 400 completed projects include many for repeat clients. As a chartered architect he has an in depth knowledge of the local planning and listed building departments coupled with a wealth of experience with traditional building techniques.

Robert Elkins Joined the practice in 2009 after gaining his Masters in Architecture at the University of Kent in Canterbury, where he was nominated for the RIBA president’s medal. He has worked for firms both in England and abroad gaining a wide range of experience in spatial planning, contemporary building techniques and urban planning. As a young architect Rob has brought a modern feel to many of our latest designs.

The differences between us are what make us stronger as a firm, we challenge each other on a daily basis and expect every decision to be robust.
